After watching Nancy Frates who is the mother that started the ALS ice bucket challenge I have a lot more knowledge of to why she started this. Everyone posted them putting a bucket of ice water over there head just to raise awareness and have fun but now I have the true meaning and understanding of how and why Mrs. Frates did this. I enjoyed this video because I have interest in this because Peter her son that was diagnosed with ALS was a professional baseball for Europe. The night when was diagnosed was determined to bring a positive to this situation and not negativity. He then told his family at the dinner table that night that he was gonna change the face of this awful disease and he did.
The whole family of Peter Frates have supported him throughout the whole journey of his ALS diagnoses. His siblings have quit their jobs just to support Peter and have a part in this long future ahead for the Frates family. Peter's younger brother have left there job and house just to help Peter on a daily bases. Peter still goes to his former teams games to watch them play and support them and he hangs his feeding bag on the fence of the batting cage and also makes his teammates face reality of what he is going through.
Nancy Frates was also explaining of how that ALS is slowly taking her son away from her because unfortunately Peter has lost all of his muscle movements and nerve senses. The only part of his body that is functioning is his brain he can not even swallow or even hold his head up anymore. One of Peter's former teammates have started an ice bucket challenge and after that everything started going in a positive direction for the family and ALS. It has raised millions towards the family and mostly to the awareness towards this horrible rare disease. Mrs. Frates has stated that she will not stop until she finds a cure for ALS because she does not want any other mother to go through that she's going through.
